Technology Tournament

Recently, the Whitby Spa Pavilion hosted a Technology Tournament organised by the Endeavour and Whitby & District Rotary Clubs.

Teams came from North Yorkshire and Teesside. Five schools took part Nunthorpe, Outward Normanby, Caedmon College, Fylinghall and Eskdale.

Schools could enter teams in three categories – Foundation (KS3), Intermediate (KS4) and Advanced (KS5). We had fifteen teams with 60 students taking part.

The task was to launch a space capsule (represented by a golf air ball). Both the launch and the return to earth had to be as close to vertical as possible. The space capsule/carrier, had to reach a height of at least 3m.

The Judges assessed the Planning and Teamwork, Design, Development of a solution and communication of Ideas, Manufacture of the Design and the Portfolio. Our Judges came from backgrounds in Education, Industry and Business.

The event would not be possible without our sponsors – Cleveland Scientific Institute, Darren Starkey and West Yorkshire Architects Society.
