Wed 11th June 2014 John Douglas Tested Members with the Primary School Quiz

Members were challenged when tackling this years Primary School Quiz. Luckily their scores were not recorded!

Wed 4th June 2014 Allan Watt talked about The Prince's Trust.

Allan talked about the problem of youth unemployment in Scotland and how the Trust helps find placements in retail and catering where training allows them to gain in confidence and experience. They also help young entrepreneurs with start up grants etc

Wed 21st May 2014 Speaker Meeting - Jane Egan talked about disabled athletics.

Jane was a corporate lawyer before an achilles injury in 2007 led to her losing the use of her legs. She told the inspirational story of how within 2 years she became a full time para triathlete who now holds British, European and World titles.

Wed 14th May 2014 Andrew Malcolm spoke about the Malcolms business

Andrew spoke about the history of the well known local business from its 1920 beginning as a Johnstone coal merchant. After a spell as part of a conglomerate,it is again a private company in construction services and retail distribution by road and rail.

Wed 7th May 2014 Jim Hunter talked about WW1 War graves.

Rod headon Smith introduced Jim Hunter who spoke about his time on the War Graves Commission when he was a gardener at Thiepval in France, where a memorial was built in memory who fell near there in the bloody Battle of the Somme.

Wed 30th April 2014 Club AGM

As the Rotary year drew to a close, the AGM looked back over an active and successful year for the club. After Convenors summarised their activities, Mike presented each with a bottle of his own wine (well it was called "President"!).

Sun 27th April 2014 10K Charity Run in Aid of WOW!

The 2nd annual 10K run, run this year in aid of Wheelchairs on Water - the club's project to procure a special powered boat to get disabled people, who are confined to a wheelchair, out onto the water.

Wed 23rd April 2014 Heather Boswell talked about her Euroscola trip to Strasburg

Heather is from Gryffe High School and was selected to one of 27 young people from Scotland to visit the European Parliament in Strasburg. She gave an amusing and articulate talk on her enjoyable and confidence boosting trip.

Wed 16th April 2014 A Tale from the Back Green - a reading by Ronald Aitchison

Tales from the Back Green is a book of stories by actor Bill Patterson about his upbringing in Glasgow, broadcast on the radio. Ronald read one called "Trains, Boats and Planes" - an amusing story, beautifully written and rather well delivered!

Fri 11th April 2014 Collection at Morrisons supermarket, Johnstone in aid of disabled sailing.

Cans were rattled and thanks to the generosity of local shoppers, almost £500 was raised towards the club's WOW project!

Wed 9th April 2014 Brian Wilson will talk about St Vincents Hospice.

Brian Wilson is on the board of St Vincents Hospice, and he spoke with passion about the work which it does. He described the various ways in which the Hospice supports the terminally ill and their families, and how they raise the funds required.

Wed 2nd April 2014 Inverclyde Tourist Group's local tours for cruise ship passengers at Greenock.

Sandra Lapsley and Eleanor Robertson talked about the Inverclyde Tourist Group and the voluntary work they do to promote Inverclyde as a torist destination.

Wed 19th March 2014 Gillian Mathews talked about the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.

Gillian was supported by Jimmy Burwood - both are on the District committee which organises the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards at Auchengillan. She reviewed last years pilot event and the plans for this year in July.

Mon 17th March 2014 Primary School Quiz 2014

Once again this was held in the Legion Hal, Bridge of Weir, and the team from Bridge of Weir Primary School emerged as the victors to go forward to the West of Scotland District finals.

Hunter was the guest of Steve Smith and spoke about how to go about researching your family history. He outlined how to approach it, some of the sources of data and of assistance, some of the pitfalls and the need for patience, perseverance and good luck!
