Simon recalled his first military posting out to Cyprus where there was a grumbling insurrection, followed by a civil war, followed by an invasion by Turkey. It was definitely “living in interesting times”.

The membership were truly confounded by some interesting definitions of word meanings presented by the most sly, low and devious members of the club who might have been Brian Hamblin, Simon Hamilton and organiser Ronald Speirs.

Ex-member Will Moore told us about Engineering At The Speed Of Light, and we found out what light was, how fast it went and how its speed affected how computers were constructed.

We were told how Anaerobic Digestion was the principal behind the recycling of food waste, fermenting the liquidised waste to provide methane to generate 2Mw of electricity as well as a ‘soup’ useful for agricultural fertiliser on a large scale.

An excellent night was had by all. All seats having been sold out, the event raised approx £2750 which will be split between "Medical Detection Dogs" and "Home Start", with a small percentage going to Rotary's own charity fund.
