On Saturday 15th August 2009, the Rotary Lonan Parish Country Fayre was held at the magnificent setting of Ballanette Park, the home of Onchan Rotary President Stewart Clague and his wife Barbara. This event had been organised by Stewart as well as past President Nigel Dobson who is currently the Chairman of Lonan Commissioners.

Although the weather on the morning of the 15th did not promise much, being wet and windy, the Ronaldsway weathermen had assured the organisers that the weather would improve.  Stewart & Nigel held their nerve and as promised, the weather improved around midday and provided a glorious afternoon.

Onchan Rotary Club was well represented and manned the various games and the Stocks which are becoming a popular addition to the summer events. In addition to this there were three sheep races with bets being taken on which sheep was thought to be the fastest over a short course.

Although the crowd numbers were probably reduced because of the morning weather, there was still in excess of 500 persons admitted through the gates to make this Fayre a very successful event with much monies raised for local charities.
