Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Tavistock

Devon at its Best

Gateway to Cornwall and West Devon mining World Heritage sites.

Straddling the fast flowing river Tavy below the Western edge of Dartmoor, Tavistock stands in the heart of an area of tremendous natural beauty. It is a classic West Country Market Town, with a population of 11,000 and a shoppers delight. Whatever your fancy - old books, bold cooks, the art scene or smart jeans - there is enormous variety and choice.

HELP 4 HEROES:

Plymouth Mayflower Rotary Club organised an impressive PEDAL 4 HEROES range of rides over, 7, 20 and 35 miles on 4th July, 2010.

Being representatives of Tavistock Rotary Club, Fiona and David Incoll opted for the longest decisions. An impressive number of participants were already at Coypool, Plymouth when we arrived –not that the presence of the BBC Spotlight team  influenced them.

After the start, the grim reality of the long climb on the old A38 out to Langage and Lee Mill hit Fi. She did consider returning to the start but the threat of "the walk of shame" at the Cornish Clubroom persuaded her to keep going. At every junction we were encouraged by friendly Rotarian marshals and at Cornwood they had even laid on refreshments. The next two climbs up to Wotter and then to Sheepstor soon revealed why.

From there it was an easy ride around Burrator, through Clearbrook to join the Plym Valley trail and like the Great Western trains that once graced the route we steamed into Coypool just before the rain arrived.

It was great organisation by Plymouth Mayflower Rotarians and our humble efforts had at least achieved a reasonable donation to such an excellent cause.

CHARITY GOLF DAY 2nd June raised funds including £2,500 for the Chestnut Appeal

at Tavistock Golf Club - 38 teams of 3 players each, in sunshine for a change!
Great support from the teams, some of whom are members of Tav. G.C. and paid to play on their own course that day, as in previous years!   Thankyou.
Lesley Ann-Simpson collected the cheque from President Wally Lake - to be used towards the cost of a set of headlights       ( costing £15,000) to help train next generation of prostate surgeons.

Tavistock Firemen support Rotarians in canal duck plunge

Tavistock Rotarian Ray Lewis gets ducky with West Devon Mayor Cllr Alison Clish-Green

It was a case of joined up rotary in action when Roborough, Tavistock and Yelverton Clubs joined forced to raise over £2,000 at their Charity Duck Race held in the Tavistock Meadows on Saturday April 24th.
With the wind blowing in the wrong direction members of the Tavistock Fire Service saved the day by jumping into the canal to guide the 2,500 rubber ducks down the canal.
The profits from the race will be going to the Stroke Association, ShelterBox and End Polio.
