The Rotary Club of Blackpool Palatine was the first evening club to be formed in the Fylde Coast. The idea that there should be such a club came, in the first place, from the Rotary Club of Blackpool South (our mother club) and this was eventually agreed by the other Rotary Clubs on the coast. During late 1979 and early 1980 Past District Governor David Peirse J.P. as the District Extension Officer conducted the initial meetings of members of the Blackpool clubs who had agreed to assist in the new club’s formation.  Past President Ted Marshall, the secretary of Blackpool South was appointed as assistant to the District Extension Officer.  The first member was interviewed in February 1980, to be followed by other members until the membership grew to 32 by the Inaugural meeting, held in June 1980.  From then onwards the club was known as the Interim Rotary Club of Blackpool Palatine.   At our Inaugural meeting we were presented with our President’s Jewel, bell stand, lectern and visitors book by the other Blackpool clubs.  Other visiting clubs presented banners.  Meetings continued to held each Tuesday at the Cliffs Hotel, where we still meet. Our early meetings were usually covered by a speaker giving a talk on some aspect of Rotary.   In September 1980 our Charter was granted.  The official Charter was presented to our Founder president Brian Rogers J.P. by the President of Rotary International Britain and Ireland Eric Furby. Following that meeting we were at long last fully fledged Rotarians.  Our badge was and still is displayed on the outside wall as one enters the Cliffs Hotel. Over the years our membership has fluctuated between 20 and 30, but we still have 5 of our founder members with us.   Currently our membership stands at 31 and growing steadily.   In September 2008 we celebrated our 28th Birthday.
