Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Nelson, Brierfield & Reedley
Welcome to Nelson Brierfield and Reedley.
Dating back to 1927 this club has a long history - but a bright vision.
We moved into the ACE CENTRE in the middle of Nelson in 2009 when it opened. Why not contact us - come along and have a look at this exciting new venue for yourself?
We are still devoted to Community Service locally and internationally, but we also aim to enjoy ourselves. The idea of just raising money for good causes is not all - there are plenty of other organisations which do that; we also enjoy one anothers comapny and fellowship ~ with good humour and good food we meet weekly; but there are other social events as well.
Have a look through the site; look at the events organised and the projects supported. then ask yourself:
Do I care enough about people to do something about it?
Do I want to have an enjoyable time whilst doing it?
If the answer is YES - contact us, either using the email
or contact President Ed Saville on 07912227144 or 01282 613235

At the handover on 7th July I paid a warm and meant tribute to our outgoing President Harry. He had carried out the duties of President for two years and had singlemindedly sought to increase the membership of the club, whilst not losing any of its focus of Service to the Community and fellowship amongst members.
He thoroughly deserved the Citation which was presented to him by Assistant District Governor Catherine Dixon. I just hope that I am able to continue where he left off.
We are known as a club which enjoys itself, and as such we alreassy have a number of events planned or in the planning stage. The Christmas party, for example, is alrady being planned - so put 12th December in your diary and watch for more details.
Before that we have a visit from our twin club of Evry-val-de-Seine in September; and the annual Golf Day is well under way for the 11th August.

I have always found, in all organisations I have been connected with, that raising funds is easier if it is not a chore. Making fund raising an addition to something that you are already doing and enjoy is both profitable and enjoyable; we shall continue to do that and the proceeds from the Golf Day, for example will support two charities; the Local Samaritan group and FEW, a local charity which recycles surplus furniture from local schools to schools in Asia and Africa, adn other needy parts of the world.
We shall of course be supporting other national and international calls as well; including the eradication of Polio and coping with disasters through Shelter Box.
With the preent economic climate it is likely that we will be asked to address more local needs than ever before; it is important to the community here that we do not overlook them in their need.
Harry was totally committed to Increasing membership, and that is still important to us, however I wonder how many people in the local community - who may be willing to be members - do not know that they are able to join. Raising our profile in the wider community should be one of our aims for the year ahead.
