ROTARY CLUB OF CHARD

Charter Date - 7th November 1945

Welcome to the Chard Rotary Club website.

Chard Rotary Club was formed just after the Second World War and received its' Charter on 7th November 1945, meaning that we will be celebrating our 65th birthday in November of this year.

We currently have 27 members, both male and female, who range in age from 24 to, well shall we say, 70+.

We hold regular meetings, at the Choughs in Chard, on a Tuesday where we enjoy fellowship, fun and of course we wouldn't be a true Rotary club if we didn't include food. But don't think we are a load of old 'fuddy duddies' who only meet to enjoy a meal together once a week.

We are regularly involved in community projects having organised Blood Pressure Testing Days in recent years, acted as stewards at Healthy Living days in Chard Guildhall and helped marshall the annual 2 minutes silence for Remembrance Day, the switching on of Chard Christmas Lights and Chard Carnival. We also assist other organisations, such as the Cotley Hunt, with events that they are organising.

We are renowned for our carol singing which saw us perform for several years at Warner's Cricket St. Thomas Hotel and more recently entertaining the Christmas shoppers at the local Tesco store.

Then, of course, there are the sporting and social activities that we get involved in. We currently hold the District Snooker Cup, regularly meet for skittles matches with neighbouring clubs, take part in the District Bowls Tournament and have even been known to attend the odd 'drug awareness event' at one of the local hosteleries.

So as you can see, we are to say the least an active and lively club.

The 2010 - 2011 Rotary Year is a milestone for the Club with the election of our first Lady President who also happens at 26 years old to be, as far as we are aware, the youngest President in RIBI. (We're sure someone will correct us about that).

President Tracey Murphy's first contact with Rotary came back at the turn of the Millenium when she acted as our accompaniest at our annual Carol Singing at Warner's Cricket St. Thomas Hotel. She joined us as a Rotarian on 5th July 2005, at the tender age of 21, and has been a valuable addition to the Club since then. She has been very active on the Youth front, particularly with musical ventures, and we are looking forward to an interesting year under her guidance.

Tracey's charities for the year are Barnardo's, Macmillan Nursing and the Tatworth & Chard First Responders.

We are always keen to welcome new members into the Club and would be pleased for anyone who is be interested in finding out more about Rotary to attend one of our meetings, when you will have the opportunity to talk to members in a friendly atmosphere and find out more about our activities.

If you would like more information, please use the Contact Form link on the Club Home Page and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
