Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Swadlincote

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Swadlincote

"Meeting at the Heart of the National Forest"

SWADLINCOTE is the premier town  in South Derbyshire and lies close to the borders with both Leicestershire and Staffordshire.

It forms part of a larger grouping in the locality with the communities of Castle Gresley, Church Gresley, Midway, Newhall and Woodville.

Our Club Banner illustrates the area's past which was predominantly coal mining, clay extraction, pipeworks, pottery and ceramics. Moving through to the present and future, being part of the National Forest with "Conkers" the forest's central, hands on experience on our doorstep.

The Analemmatic Sundial portrayed was our contribution to celebrate Rotary's Centennial and was built by members of the club within the forest at Rosliston Forestry Centre.

Using the menus you can find out more about what we do, including up-to-date information about our weekly meetings.   We are part of Rotary International, which is the world's largest service organisation for business and professional people.   All clubs have several committees which give a differing type of service, more information is available from the Club Action Groups.

Rotary Day 2009

    Rotary Lights up the World

Rotary celebrated its 104th birthday by  projecting the "End Polio Now" message on a number of iconic buildings throughout the world.  The Rotary Club of Swadlincote supported the Polio Plus Campaign. Through a fund raising dinner on St George's Day, at which Edwina Currie, was the   guest speaker we have succeeded in raising the first tranche of  our target figure towards matching the Gates  Foundation initial  donation of  $100m.

See our Photo Gallery.

Also to continue our efforts we collected donations at Morrison's Supermarket on Friday and Sunday 18th and 20th September.  We thank the public for their very kind donations.   This means that we have now reached our second target figure.

Learn about Rotary through the eyes of its membership, you may be surprised by what they have to say.

                                                     Over the last month

We have presented the Guide Dogs for the Blind with a cheque. (Mrs Carol Glover receives

the cheque from President Alan watched by her helper Mrs Pat Thomlison and guide dog ICE).

We have received a cheque from Milton Womens Institute towards our Aquabox appeal.

These are containers used in disaster areas throughout the world to provide equipment and

a supply of healthy clean drinking water.

The money was raised by the Milton W.I during their open garden week when the members

supplied the teas. (Past President Tony Gardner receives the cheque from the President

of Milton Womens Institute - Mrs Jane Smith).

July saw the instalation of the new President of the Rotary Club Of Swadlincote.

(On the right we have departing President Alan Last handing over the chain of office to

Incoming President Neil Durrant.

Finally, we celebrated the start of Neil's year with our annual Rotary Ball  and members

danced the night away to the music of the Judy Nicol Band at Bretby Conference Centre.

Aquabox Emergency Campaign.

The work of "AQUABOX" never stops.   With donations and help from the local community, including schools, and for whose help we are extremely   grateful, this past 12 months has seen 50 Aquaboxes  being filled. Thereby enabling Aquabox to respond to the many request for help relating to world wide disasters.  With YOUR help we can do even more. Just spend a few moments to browse the Aquabox Site.
