Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Guildford
This club, number 50 in Britain and Ireland, was founded in 1922. We are a member of District 1250.
Rotarians — men and women alike — volunteer their efforts to improve the quality of life in their own communities and beyond their communities' borders. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Club membership represents a cross-section of local business and professional leaders.
The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community and the world. We build goodwill and peace, provide humanitarian service, and encourage high ethical standards in all vocations.
The Rotary motto is
"Service Above Self"
There are 1.2 million Rotary members worldwide, in 166 countries, and
60,000 members in Great Britain & Ireland in 1800 clubs.
As well as national and international charities supported each year, our club adopts a special charity and in 2009-10 we supported Multiple Sclerosis therapy and support in Guildford. One constant effort on the international front is the supply of water purification plants and other essentials for disaster areas. See Sam Das' report on the Rotary Club of Guildford Eye Project on website www.guildfordrotaryeyeproject.org.uk and Clive Addis-Jones report on Reconstructive Surgery in Bangalore by hitting "International Programme" top left.
