Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Oxted & Limpsfield

Welcome to the Oxted & Limpsfield Rotary Club.

Our club has served the local community since our formation in 1923. Our membership is open to members of either sex and we meet weekly on Tuesday lunchtimes at the Royal British Legion , Westerham Road, Limpsfield near Oxted, Surrey RH8 0SJ. New members are always welcome.  Please click on the 'contact ' tab to get in touch with the club.

Our common objective is to enjoy ourselves working together to serve others where we see the need. Together we do make a difference, with an annual charity budget of over £10,000 that would not have been found without our efforts. None of this money goes towards the club's running expenses, as members' time is freely given.

Local Rotary - what we do

Anyone or group with a genuine need is unlikely to be turned away if we can help with a cash award or people to help at an event or in a crisis. We support events at local schools, organise a Race Night (creating about £2000 and a lot of fun), run Bingo evenings, take deprived children on an outing (Kids Out), and generally keep an eye open for other local needs that may otherwise go unnoticed. And of course our annual Christmas collection outside Oxted's Boots and supermarkets is a well-known local event.

Recent news and activities

Our successful Stroke Awareness event on Saturday the 17th of April saw many people persuaded to have their blood pressure taken and helped raise public awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure.  We are grateful to the local nurses who helped by taking the blood pressures.  We organised a fashion  show at Oxted's Barn Theatre with the help of two ladies' fashion shops and a local beauticians.  It raised nearly £2000 for charity.  We have a fund-raising presence at the Oxted Scouts' Donkey Derby, the Oxted Carnival and the annual Oxted Pram Race.  We also hope to be present at the annual Godstone Fete on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30th.

International Rotary

Although it is Local Rotary that is most noticeable, it is in our international efforts that we have the greatest impact. Here our club supports by fundraising for projects that we choose. Rotary has clubs and members in virtually all free countries, with the same objective, able to work together for truly vast projects without personal profit anywhere on the agenda. Our club has worked with a club in Peru, and another in Africa. Avoidable blindness, polio elimination, cataracts, lost limbs (by landmines), destitute children… all are or have been helped by projects that we support.

Emergency Responses

Rotary responded to the Asian tsunami and the more recent Haitian earthquake.  Rotary has teams and equipment strategically located around the globe able to respond immediately when disaster strikes by providing emergency shelter boxes (a very successful Cornish initiative), clean water, expert advice and on-the-ground help. Flood, earthquake, tsunami, landslide… all creating victims by the thousand who are touched by the selfless response of Rotarians all over the world… We are proud to help these projects on a continuing basis, and to mobilise community help by fundraising when disaster hits the headlines.

It's a privilege to be able to help - just by being an active Rotarian.
