Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Sedgemoor
![]() |
The Rotary Club of Sedgemoor was formed in 1987, and is named after the area in Somerset where the last battle on English soil took place on July 6, 1685. The Club is 'twinned' with the Rotary Club of Homberg Efze, in Germany.Full details of our meetings can be found by clicking on 'Meetings' on the top menu, but imminent events are shown at the bottom of this page. Visiting Rotarians are assured of a warm welcome, but should you wish to attend, please contact the Secretary. Each meeting starts with a meal and is usually followed by a speaker.Occasionally the Club will have an event which takes members away from their usual meeting place so please check the programme to ensure that there will be a meeting at The Walnut Tree when you intend to come along. The Walnut Tree Hotel details are on the right and our Secretary Roger Lowndes, can be contacted on 01278 663 584 | ||
| Also on the top menu is a link to 'Events' - non-Rotarians may like to take a look here to see what we get up to besides our normal meetings - and the 'Photo Galleries' link shows pictures of some of our past activities. On the side menu, under 'Other Links' you can click to see our 'Club Officers'; information 'About Rotary'; the area in which our club is grouped -'District 1200'; Rotary International in Britain and Ireland - 'RIBI'; and Rotary International itself -'RI'. | |||
| We are always pleased to welcome anyone in the Sedgemoor area who is interested in finding out more about Rotary and would be pleased to invite you to one of our meetings where you can meet us and find out what we do. Rotary is not a 'secret society', but is just made up of groups of people who get together for fellowship and to help the local and world communities.
If you would like more information, please use the 'Contact Form' link in the top menu, and we will be in touch as soon as possible | |||

Doing something funny for Red Nose Day 2009
------------------- Sedgemoor's Polio Plus Donations2006-2009 : £6,572Rotary International is the spearheading member of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and is the largest private sector donor. It has contributed more than US$600 million to the polio eradication activities in 122 countries. In addition, tens of thousands of Rotarians have partnered with their national ministries of health, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and with health providers at the grassroots level in thousands of communities. Rotary International announced a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on 26 November that will inject a much needed US$200 million into the global effort to finally eradicate polio. The Rotary Foundation received a $100 million Gates Foundation challenge grant, which Rotary will raise funds to match, dollar for dollar, over three years, and Sedgemoor Rotary is committed to taking its part in this continued fund-raising. The latest news is that Bill Gates has given another $250 million to help with the final 'push' to kill off polio once and for all in the 'End polio Now' campaign - he obviously thinks that Rotary are doing a good job!.
