Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower
The Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower plays a major role in the community life of the town and its 40,000 inhabitants.
It was formed in 1990 as part of Rotary International and is committed to the principle of service above self.
Rotary is not a secret society but exists worldwide with the aim of providing help to afflicted communities and individuals, runs a massive educational programme and provides fellowship and fun for its members.
Mayflower members are representative of a wide range of professions, businesses and trades and come from a wide age range. All are united in a spirit of service and at the same time enjoy the leisure hours they put into their membership.
Rotary Clubs run countless humanitarian projects across the UK and abroad that attempt to tackle some of today's most critical issues such as violence, drug abuse, health problems, hunger, climate chance and illiteracy.
Rotary Club membership stretches across the globe:
1.2 million members worldwide
More than 32,000 clubs worldwide
Covering more than 200 countries
Which in turn cover more than 530 local districts
56,800 members within the UK across 1,838 different Rotary Clubs
Mayflower members volunteer their efforts to help improve the quality of life for people within the town and beyond, initiating community projects and supporting local charitable organisations and charities that assist those in need.
Our major activities include
An annual fun day staging entertainment and providing the chance for local organisations to share in an event where they can show the town's families what they do and to raise money
An annual Christmas Family Fayre where the club provides the background for late night shopping, a whole range of entertainment in a High Street barred to traffic for the evening, and stalls and events run by local organisations.
International Service Projects have included:
Raising fund to equip a Mayflower School in a deprived area of India
- Providing facilities for a much needed eye hospital in the same region
- Providing means to bring clean water to primitive villages in Africa
- Helping disadvantaged young people in an area of South Africa.
