Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Frome Selwood

Rotary Club of Frome Selwood.

The Club is one of the two Rotary Clubs based on the town of Frome, Somerset. The Club received its charter in May 1990 and meets on Tuesday evenings. The membership of the Club has always been in the twenties with both male and female members, and in the year 2007-2008 the Club had its first lady President – Gloria Buchan.

Like all other Rotary Clubs we are involved in the local community as well as local and international charities and over the years we have raised over £100,000 for charitable causes such as Dorothy House, Hope and Homes for Children, Send a Cow and Somerset Life Education Centre.

This year - 2010/2011 - The President is a chartered insurance broker - Jenny Bennett - our second female President. At the Handover on the 29th June President Jenny said:

" I want our Club to be pro-active, to see a need and react. I want to see us moved by the plight of others in the world. Lets really get across the message that Rotary does care - whether helping someone in the community or by our contributions to international projects."

We have weekly meetings and 2 of these meetings every month are used to run the business of the Club at the other meetings we have guest speakers from the local community or have visits to outside organisations so that we can find out more about the businesses in the community.

Frome, our home town, is situated in Mendip District about 12 miles south of the City of Bath and 15 miles west of Stonehenge. It is an old market town although the livestock market has moved outside the town.

The Club is twinned with a Club in France - the Rotary Club of Pons. Pons is a town about 1.5 hours drive north of Bordeaux. You can find out more by visiting their website

www.rotary-pons.fr       The "Keep" at Pons.

You may be interested to know that so far the 2009/2010 year we have raised about £11,000 for charity through various events such as a fashion show at Marks & Spencer, a wine tasting, a choral concert at Marston House and a crockery smashing stall at various local shows and fetes. The organisations we have supported are Dorothy House, Somerset Community Foundation, Forever Friends at the RUH, Positive Action for Cancer and other Rotary Charities as well as several local families.

Over the years we have supported the Shelterbox program and the latest area that shelterboxes have been sent to is Brazil, for more details see http://www.shelterbox.org/news.php?id=383
