STOP PRESS

Help for Pakistan

The scale of the problems in Pakistan caused by the recent heavy monsoon is unprecedented - more people affected than the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake combined, with 20 million people homeless.

The High Suffolk club is raising money to help, starting with a collection at Framlingham Co-op on Saturday 14th August which raised £510.

High Suffolk welcomes two new members

A very warm welcome to Nicole Ker-Gibson of Debenham, and John Hunt of Bedingfield. Nicole, who joined the club on the 28th July, works as an Insurance Broker in Ipswich. John joined on the 4th August, and was most recently the Managing Director of his own company. Both are active people, and will clearly make a great contribution to the club.

Join Rotary, and do something good with your time!

We're not a secret organisation, or an international capitalist conspiracy, or a bunch of weirdos!

Rotary is made up of mostly professional and business people, men and women, all races and religions, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members work locally, regionally, and internationally to build communities, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio, under the motto "Service Above Self"

Oh, and by the way, we have a lot of fun and friendship along the way!

Joining your local Rotary club is a great way to meet people, make contacts, and do some good in the world. Like any club, membership is by invitation, but we're always looking for new members, especially people who GET THINGS DONE.

Want to know more? There's quite a lot of stuff about Rotary on the web. Try this video (a bit American, but ignore that, and listen to what they're saying). For a more local accent, try this video.

If you think that Rotary might be for you, email the club via the Contact FormYou won't regret it.

Shelterbox latest

When the earthquake in Haiti happened, it triggered an immediate response from the Rotary International community, and from the Rotary ShelterBox charity. High Suffolk Rotary Club wanted to do its bit to help….and we thought we'd be able to contribute one, perhaps two ShelterBoxes, to provide homes for a few families. But you had different ideas...  We had a fantastic response from Schools and individuals across the High Suffolk area. As a result, we managed to collect enough money for  15  Shelterboxes! This is an incredible achievement, and something to be very proud of! In Haiti, ShelterBox has now delivered over 13,000 boxes to families who lost everything in the earthquake, with each box containing a disaster relief tent to house a family of up to 10 and other items essential for survival. But tens of thousands are still living without adequate shelter in heavy rains and with the hurricane season soon approaching, the need for emergency shelter is still great, and another 5,000 boxes are planned. And ShelterBox is also actively helping the victims of the earthquakes in Chile and China. You can find out more at http://www.shelterbox.org/news.php?id=302 So, on behalf of the Rotary Club of High Suffolk, the ShelterBox charity, and the people of Haiti... THANK YOU !
