Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry
PRESIDENTS PROLOGUE
Each Past President has brought something different to the club in their year, and each will be remembered for their good and not so bad points. In the past 13 years that I've been in Rotary I've seen many changes, all for the good of Rotary. I thank all the Past Presidents for their contributions and hope that my year will bring as many happy memories to old and new members. I was introduced to Rotary in 1997 by Trevor Waddington. You may remember him as the past fair minded Sergeant At Arms!!! Fred Burrows was my first President, what a role model he was for Rotary. Thanks Fred for a great start.
How I ever volunteered (or was that press ganged) to be President I am still not sure, but the past 12 months have just flown, and hope that the next 12 months go a little slower.
The start of my year was Handover shortly followed by the Dragon Boat Race. What a fantastic day, the weather was just right, not too hot and a nice breeze to keep us cool. Escorting the Mayor and Mayoress on a tour of the Pugneys site provided a chance to ask if next year he would like to act as Drummer on one of the boats, but he gracefully declined my offer!!!.
After a quick wash & brush-up at the end of a long day, it was straight to Robin Richmond's home for a Hog Roast. By the time we got there I could have eaten the whole hog myself, with only one of Robin's Pork pies in the morning to keep me going. It was nice to have such a wonderful spread of food provided by June and some of the other Rotarians' wives. Thank you all.
Last but by no means least, was the visit by our DG to the following Tuesday Meeting. If motivation was available in tins Roger must have a store the size of Asda.
How does the other half live? Is Chantry the norm or the abnorm in Rotary Clubs? I would like to think that we are a Unique club, a leader not a follower in all things Rotary.
What about the rest of the year? Shorter speaker presentations (30 mins average), shorter Council Meetings (45 mins average), what more could a Rotarian hope for; maybe more chips on the menu?
After only 3 weeks in office, haven't we done well?
Keep up the good work and thank you for all your support.
Yours in Rotary
President Don
