Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Glossop

Greetings from President Alan Conchie.

You may have arrived at our website through a variety of routes.  You may have found our web site through searching for information on our activities. You may have found us because you are a Rotarian visiting High Peak and looking for a club to visit.  You may be interested in Rotary and are trying to find a club that suits your needs.   But whatever your reason you are very welcome and we hope that our website gives you an insight into our wide range of activities, our support for the community and schools, and the fun things we do.

So far this year we have had our very successful Glossop Jog, with over 450 registered "joggers".  This is one of our major fundraising activities and we have high hopes about the donation we will make to Kidscan, Curing Children with Cancer, a Salford Hospital based charity.

Rotary gives help wherever it is needed; at local, national and global levels.  All of us are working very hard this year to raise funds to finally eradicate Polio.  This is a shared activity between Rotary International and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and we are taking the message into Glossopdale schools, educating them about the disease and raising funds at the same time.

Please look at the many activities we are involved in and if you feel that Glossop Rotary Club may be for you then why not e-mail our secretary to arrange a visit to one of our meetings to find out more.   We would love to hear from anyone interested in joining us and wanting to make a real difference to the World.  We have much to do, will enjoy doing it and would like to meet like-minded people to support and join us.  What about you?

Emergency collection for victims of the Haiti Earthquake.

In response to the Haiti Earthquake disaster, Glossop Rotary Club has organised a major fund-raising collection to aid the vast number of victims. This took place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January and the Club raised over £5500 from generous donations from the people of Glossop.  The quake hit Haiti late on Tuesday evening and its horrific extent did not become apparent until detailed television pictures began being shown on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Club gives its grateful thanks to: the managers of the Supermarkets who, at very short notice, gave their permissions for us to collect in their premises, the Borough Council who gave maximum priority to get permission for us to have street collections, the Army Cadets who collected at the Market throughout Saturday, the High Street shops who took collecting cans, and members of Glossop Inner Wheel, and to friends and associates of our Club who worked alongside us with great good humour .
We are delighted with the success of this appeal and feel very humbled by the way in which so many people responded to the humanitarian needs of those without food and water, health facilities, and shelter.  Glossop Rotary club is a part of Rotary International and this includes the Clubs within the Caribbean.  It is through this network that the funds we have raised will, very shortly, be brought close to those in desperate need.  100% of the money collected will be transferred to the Rotary organisation in the Caribbean so that it can be used by those close to the disaster and who know the real needs.
Once again, a huge thanks to all the warm-hearted Glossop people who contributed so greatly.

Leonard Cheshire expedition.

Many of us welcomed Andrew Fairbairn at Crowden (Longdendale Valley) in early June, on his trans-Britain expedition by kayak, bike and on foot to raise money for Leonard Cheshire Disability Charity. See the pictures in the photo gallery above.

Meeting arrangements.

The club meets every Wednesday evening at the Windy Harbour hotel in Glossop which overlooks the reservoirs in the Longdendale valley. The evening normally consists of a meal and then after the formal business is completed there is usually a speaker. Guests are most welcome to join us.
