Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Glossop
Greetings from President Roger Gibson.

I have been a Rotarian for many years; I was president of this club some 28 years ago and I was delighted when my fellow members elected me to do this job again. I look forward to a challenging year – our programme of has been mapped out and will include some items that have become regular features, like the Glossop Jog and the Carol concert for the elderly at Christmas. We also like to be able to respond to the unexpected. This year we received tremendous support from the public with a collection at Tesco's for the devastating earthquake emergency in Haiti. We also collected for the blind to support the R.N.I.B – not a Rotary charity but they requested our help, which we were delighted to give. We support both local and international charities – Rotary International is working alongside the World Health organisation to eliminate polio worldwide. Latest figures show that there have been only 390 known cases worldwide to date in 2010. We also support youth activities – Youth Speaks competitions are held in both primary and secondary schools; assistance is given to enable schools to learn chess; 15 schools are currently growing butterfly friendly gardens and will be judged before the end of July

The Presidential Citation has been awarded to the Glossop Rotary Club by the President of Rotary International, John Kenny, for the year 2009/10. I feel very honoured to have been President of Glossop Rotary Club in the year when this Citation has been given. It gives recognition to the many achievements for all the members of the Club and the huge amount of work done by them. The Jog enabled us to support KidScan, we gave strong support for the global eradication of polio, sent Shelterboxes and Lifeboxes to Haiti, and have supported numerous local charities. I'm sure that I share, with all Club members, appreciation for this recognition.
Alan Conchie. Immediate Past President
