Lymm
Rotary Club’s annual charity concert in May, at Manchester's
Bridgewater Hal, was again a huge success, and attended by
more
than 1,100 people. The concert raised over £6000 for The Christie, The middle left picture shows Howard Newhall from The Christie, receiving a cheque from Club President Tony Cookson, and Neville Davies, our Concert Organiser. The concert provides a ‘chance in a lifetime’ opportunity for local young musicians to appear on stage, alongside the professional artists, tenor Martin Toal , violinist Craig Owen and soprano Louise Taylor,.at such a prestigious venue as the Bridgewater Hall. Louise Taylor not only has a wonderful voice, but is also the editor of the ‘Cheshire Life’ magazine. |
| Her July
editorial sums up the concert
beautifully …..’ A few weeks ago I was delighted
to sing
in a concert
at the Bridgewater Hall in aid of the Christie. Martin was in fine
voice but I’m sure he’d join me in saying that the
real
stars of the
night were the many young musicians who shared the stage with us. These
included Stockport Youth Orchestra, the choir from Loreto, Altrincham,
musicians fro Lymm High School, and the June Rendall Dance Academy. It
was a memorable and uplifting occasion and I know that representaives
from the hospital who attended were truly impressed.’ We were pleased to see that some of the winners of the the Lymm High School Young Musician of the Year competition, which is sponsored by Lymm Rotary Club, performed, including Meera Mahara on flute, Lauren 0'Neil on trumpet and singer Pamela Dick, who also accompanied Martin Toal. Lymm High School also provided a string ensemble to entertain in the foyer before the concert. The artists were introduced on stage by John Stalker, former Deputy Police Chief of Manchester |
