THE ROTARY  YEAR AHEAD – "Building Communities – Bridging Continents"

I am honoured to become the 99th President of the Rotary Club of Manchester and will do my utmost to make the year both successful and enjoyable. I must pay tribute to President Eddie for his sterling efforts and a very successful year in 2009/10. Eddie is – as they say – a 'hard act to follow'! Eddie has been ably supported by the Council and the service Chairs. I want to thank them all for their efforts. I know I will receive equal support to make 2010-11 a very successful year.

My theme for the year is 'Manchester – its heritage and future – building  Communities'. The latter tag line reflects the RI theme in 2010-2011, "Building Communities – Bridging Continents".

Roy Chapman

President

Brass and Beatles

From 1995 to 2005, the Rotary Club of Manchester organised at Chandlers Farm, Nether Alderley a series of Open Air Concerts which starred Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band and The Other Beatles, a fine Beatles tribute band. Crowds increasing to 2000 gathered in the open air with their gazebos and picnics from 5 pm to enjoy a feast of popular music which culminated in a finale of last Night of the Proms favourites and the traditional and unforgettable 'You'll Never Walk Alone' with Brass Band and The Other Beatles performing together.

In 2005, the final Concert was staged and Poynton Rotary Club were invited to continue the Concerts in Poynton Park.
