Welcome to our Website
Nick Woodward President 2009/10
The Rotary Club of Stratford-upon-Avon is flourishing and has a membership of 70. It is one of the largest Clubs in the District of 67 clubs. The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Joyce Taylor has recently been welcomed as an honorary member. Our club meets at Falcon Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon at lunchtimes, but on the fifth Monday in the month the meetings are held in the evenings. The Club is open to both ladies and gentlemen.
Our chief activities on fund raising include the Shakespeare Marathon, held in April, when over 3,000 runners participate for the full and half marathon. Recently in excess of £50,000 has been raised for various charities, including the Shakespeare Hospice, plus an estimated £400,000 from runner's own sponsorship.
A very successful Golf Day has been held for many years and raises over £3,500. A Rotary stand at the Bulldog Bash in August, selling soft drinks, milk, fruit and vegetables, also produced over £4,000 for Rotary supported charities last year.
Its International Committee is very active on supporting overseas projects, and recently has organised several excellent fund raising concerts at Stratford Civic Hall, and elsewhere. In 2005, over £17,000 was raised for Aquaboxes, following the Tsunami disaster. Donations to Shelterbox for the Burma appeal have recently been made.
The Community & Vocational Service Committee continues to be very actively involved in a large number of local community projects. Youth Opportunities Committee includes Young Enterprise and Youth Speaks in its activities. The Foundation Committee supports the Ambassadorial scholars and Group Study Exchange schemes. Please see the individual service links for further details.
