Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of South Cambridge

South Cambridge is one of four Rotary clubs in the Cambridge area. This link accesses their combined programme of meetings and events together with those of Inner Wheel and Rotaract.

Our last meeting of 2009-10 was a barbecue on a superb evening in pleasant surroundings and followed by a most enjoyable punting evening on an equally warm sunny evening of 8th July.

Wednesday 9th June the Club funded the attendance of 18 children with disabilities from Castle School Cambridge to attend Rotary Kids Out at Wimpole Hall. Our thanks to our commercial sponsors who supported the event.

Members and friends enjoyed a walk round the RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes guided by Neil Fenwick who had spoken to a club meeting in Oct 09.

A cheese and wine tasting for the benefit of Macmillan Cancer Support was enjoyed by members and friends.

The football tournament for the homeless in Cambridge at Clare College

Sports Ground on Sunday 25th April was another milestone for the club.

Winners were Cambridge YMCA and the Player of the tournament was their Musa Kamara.  Many of the players personally thanked organiser Mike Smith.

The Stroke Awareness Blood pressure assessments identified eleven (26%) people with high blood pressure and were advised to consult their GP. The assessments were made by members of St John's Ambulance at the Grafton Centre when shoppers were encouraged to take advantage of the free tests.

“It’s a great experience as a young person to take part in this competition. It’s given me lots of confidence now I know I can address an audience.”

Welcome to 'Thanks for

Life', a project involving the 1,800 clubs and 58,000 members of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland, aimed at helping to eradicate polio throughout the world.

Timed to coincide with Rotary's 105th anniversary, a campaign week from 22nd - 27th February was held nationally during which the 4 Rotary Clubs in Cambridge publicised Rotary and the success of the Polio eradication campaign. Your support was gratefully received in support of the final phases of this major project.

The Charity concert at West Road Concert Hall on Saturday 13th February in aid of MAGPAS was another 'sellout' and the performances were highly praised by attendees. Soloist Tom Poster taking applause with conductor Leon Lovett.

Annual Christmas Car Parking between 5th December and 3rd January raised £11,018 most of which will go to local charities.

Our grateful thanks to all who supported the event and to the University Departments who kindly provided the facilities.
Thanks to our many supporters on 2nd and 3rd January when we had another good turnout with takings of £2575.

On 4th-6th September our President, David Adamson, and 4 members shared fun and wonderful hospitality with members of our friendship club in Szeged.

"Come and join the South Cambridge Rotary Club at the University Arms Hotel Regent Street. We are proud to host one of the most active groups of Rotarians in East Anglia. Our members participate in a variety of service activities to benefit our community locally and to serving the needs of the disadvantaged in other parts of the world," according to President Michael.  Interested? Our work includes:

Meetings and events. The club offers a warm and hospitable environment where Rotarians and guests meet and share in the fellowship and Networking that is Rotary. The club also enjoys a wide range of social and cultural events.

Most meetings begin with a meal, followed by notices / business announcements, then the speaker and discussion. The recent programme illustrates the wide range of subjects and  high calibre of the speakers.

Community service projects offer club members opportunities to serve the community, they include Christmas car parking, driving mini buses for Cambridge Dial-a-Ride, Charity concerts with the City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (CCSO),  Youth projects which feature in the clubs' programme include Youth Speaks and Rotary Young Chef and Rotary Kids Out.

Fund Raising. In the true spirit of Rotary International, members take on a variety of activities to raise awareness and funds in support of several Community and International projects and Rotary Foundation.

Many of our club activities are featured in the photo gallery.

An open invitation.
