Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Rickmansworth
We are a friendly club of around 33 members ranging in age from 38 upwards.
We meet at The Bedford Arms Hotel in Chenies
1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month - we meet at lunchtime 12h30 for 13h00 start
2nd, 4th and 5th where applicable, we meet in the evenings at 19h00 for a 19h30 start
We welcome any person who is looking to serve local and international projects, seeking fun and friendship, both working and retired.
We would also welcome new guests to any of our weekly meetings.
We would be pleased to talk to you about Rotary and how you, too, may become a member of this international service organisation.
The principal purpose of the Club is to raise funds to support local, national and international charities. Funds are raised through activities undertaken in Rickmansworth and the surrounding area. Fundraising continues throughout the year and the money raised is distributed.
The main recipients are local charities in Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Croxley Green and nearby communities in SW Hertfordshire.
The Club is part of the worldwide family of Rotary and therefore also contributes to Rotary supported charities across the globe. This is done through our links with Rotary Clubs abroad so that we can be sure the money raised is properly directed to those in greatest need.
In the course of this year we have collected over £7,000.00 to devote to charitable projects. This has been done by collections outside local stores, collections before Christmas by touring in our area with Santa Claus and Rudolf and by running events such as Quiz nights.
Examples of charities supported are:
Locally
§ The Walsingham Trust Care Home for Adults with Learning Disability
§ The Alzheimer’s Society
§ Hearing dogs for deaf people
§ Purchase of specialist equipment for cancer patients at Mount Vernon Hospital
§ A contribution to a new MRI scanner for Harefield Hospital.
Internationally:
§ Contribution to the Polio Plus campaign to eradicate Polio throughout the world, jointly run by Rotary and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
§ Shelter boxes for international disasters.
§ Aqua boxes to enable those in third world countries to have fresh water.
