Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Wilton

History

The Rotary Club of Wilton was chartered in 1979 and is based at Wilton, the ancient capital of Wessex - which comprised a large swathe of Central Southern England. Set on the River Wylye, Wilton gave its name to the surrounding county of Wiltshire. The members of the Club live principally in Wilton, nearby Salisbury and the villages of the Chalke and Avon river valleys south of Wilton. [Right: Wilton House].

Activities

The activities of The Rotary Club of Wilton are reflected in its programme of events which include, first and foremost, service to the community as well as various associated fundraising events and fellowship activities.  The main events in its fundraising calendar are the "Mammoth Car Boot Sale", one of the largest in southern England held on August Bank Holiday Monday, and "Rotary Spireworks", the area's premier bonfire and fireworks display commemorating Guy Fawkes Night in November.  These events have been running for more than 20 years  and typically fund most of its ongoing community service programme which includes giving financial and other assistance to various charities and organizations, both local and international.  Each year Club members also give their time freely to help with the marshalling of several major fundraising events organised by local charities including the Walk for Wards and Supercars meeting at Wilton House on behalf of Salisbury District Hospital's Stars Appeal.  We are grateful to our Rotary Business Partners for their generous support of our activities in the form of sponsorship, goods and services.

Membership

Our President for 2010-11 is Giles Vye (right) who is an Estate Agent.  The Club currently consists of 36 members with a variety of backgrounds. Several own their own businesses such as property development and building, information technology, hotels and catering, healthcare and automobile engineering.  Others are employed in various professional positions including real estate, legal and financial services, and some are retired.  We also have one honorary member, The Earl of Pembroke, whose family home, Wilton House pictured above, is a major tourist attraction in the centre of Wilton.

Members are brought together not only by a common desire to serve and enhance their own communities and those of others in need farther afield, but also by the fellowship that membership of Rotary offers.
