Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Hawick
Welcome to
the Rotary Club of Hawick
I have been a member of Hawick Rotary Club for a period of ten years, and during that time I have enjoyed the fellowship, and shared in the wide variety of activities and efforts, both at home and abroad, that are always a part of any Rotarian's experiences. Rotary originated in America, but is now a world wide organisation. Its motto “Service before Self” is reflected a million times over in Rotarians – men and women from all walks of life, giving of their time and talents to help others less fortunate than themselves.
There is no question in my mind that Rotary is one of the greatest service organisations in the world and it gladdens my heart every time I see our club members supporting worthwhile causes by either raising monies, or giving of their time. Rotary Clubs are really good at organising events and activities that will benefit others, Plans are made carefully, with clear objectives. We know what has to be done and who will do it. We do it and afterwards we evaluate our success.
There are Rotary Clubs in Selkirk, Melrose, Galashiels, Lauder, Duns, Peebles, Langholm, West Linton, Jedburgh, Berwick, Lockerbie, Eyemouth, Dumfries, and IWT (Innerleithen, Wlakerburn & Traquair). These are the clubs nearest to Hawick, and we have a close association with them. Our own club meets weekly in a local hotel, where we normally have a guest speaker, a meal, and enjoy the friendship and good humour - for Rotary is about fun and enjoyment.
Rotary looks to the future. The needs of those who look to us for help will not diminish and we will need new and energetic Rotarians with new ideas if we are not to let these people down. We want to share Rotary with everyone who could be interested in it, for after all Rotary has developed and grown for the past 104 years. We live in changing times and Rotary has also changed with these times: relaxed and informal, we welcome potential members. Do come and have a look for yourself. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Pick up your phone and speak with Scott Elliot, on Hawick 375046, and he will be delighted to arrange a night for you to visit Hawick Rotary Club.

, and a symbol of the town's historic traditions. Used by locals as a guide when giving directions to visitors, but close enough also to help visiting Rotarians find the Buccleuch Hotel where our club meets every Thursday. We're an active club, trying always to look forward, and keen to welcome new members who will bring freshness and new ideas. We're lucky to live in a lovely part of the Borders - Hawick among the hills - and maybe that's why so many of our club members are keen golfers, enjoying the views, for example, from the top of the local Vertish Hill.
