Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Walton-on-Thames
Thursday 29 July
Jacintha Bennett, Organiser, Home-Start Elmbridge.
Home-Start are a national body but run separately in different communities. They offer support for families with at least one child under 5. An Organiser meets the family to assess their needs then uses trained volunteers to provide practical support of 2 hours per week. Typically referral is through Health or Social Services.
Thursday 5 August
Lt. Rachel Blackmore, Junglies Over Basra
Lt. Blackmore learnt to fly on the University Air Squadron while studying Anthropolgy (!) at Durham. After joining the Royal Navy she showed an aptitude for helicopters and gained her wings on the Commando Sea King – more commonly associated with air sea rescue. She has had three periods of duty in Basra and her talk is a raw account of service life in a war zone.
The Rotary Club of Walton-on-Thames
Our Club has around 40 members and is twinned with the
Rotary Clubs of Peronne in France and
Heidelberg-Schloss in Germany with whom
we enjoy reciprocal visits.
We organise and take part in local, national and international service
projects and raise considerable amounts for charity each year.
Very importantly, we socialise and have fun.
