Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy Raith

Fun, Fellowship and Service

The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy Raith hopes it can welcome you one Thursday morning at 7.30am at the Beveridge Park Hotel, 6 Abbotshall Road, Kirkcaldy.  The members are a great mix of male/female and all ages.  We always ensure that fun comes high on our list of priorities as we develop the club's activities and service projects.

If you are not a member of Rotary yet, we are sure you will find our meetings informative and interesting.  Most of us went along one morning to visit, and we liked what we saw .... and joined.  Where else can you make a difference locally, nationally, and internationally and have fun at the same time?  You can be assured of a warm welcome and a good breakfast.  Please feel free to come along and meet us.

Please email greception@bairdco.co.uk if you would like to attend or if you require any more information regarding Rotary.  You can also find us on Facebook http://facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?#/group.php?gid=96704967117&ref=ts.

ANNUAL CHARITY FUNDRAISING GOLF DAY

Our Annual Charity Fundraising Golf Day will take place on Friday, 18 June 2010 at Balwearie Golf Club.  We are hoping for sunshine and a day of fun.....and competition.  The trophies are waiting to be won and the raffle prizes are fantastic.

All the best to those taking part.

QUIZ WINNERS

When Glenrothes Rotary Club threw down the gauntlet for Kirkcaldy Raith to join them for a quiz night, it was with slight trepidation that the team "Raith Rovers" went to the Gilvenbank Hotel on 29 January.  There were 4 other teams of 4, comprising Glenrothes Inner Wheel ladies and Rotarians.  We are delighted to announce that we won the quiz and Ruth Smyth, Senior Vice-President, announced that Kirkcaldy Raith would be happy to host next year's quiz.

SAMOAN TSUMANI CHEQUE PRESENTATION

The Club was very happy to present Quentin Sinft with a cheque to aid those who had been affected by the Samoan Tsunami on 30 September 2009.  Members donated the money they would have spent on Christmas cards, and 2 local businesses - Crosbie Matthew Undertakers and St Clair Veterinary Group - did the same.

KINGDOM KIDS BENEFITS FROM CHARITY GOLF DAY

Linda McCrabbe from Kingdom FM came along to receive a cheque for £1500 from President Shiona Wishart for  the Kingdom Kids charity which gives money to worthwhile causes for children in Fife.

CHARITY BOOK SALE - 4/5 July 2009

We joined with the Kirkcaldy club to make our presence known at the Beveridge Park Festival and to promote Rotary International.  A shelter tent was pitched, together with the shelter box, and many people stopped to learn how Rotary is making a difference in the world, as well as locally.

Kirkcaldy Raith's club is indebted to all those who supplied books for sale, and despite a downpour on the Sunday morning, people visited, browsed, and bought books at bargain prices!

CHARITY GOLF DAY - 19 June 2009

We were again blessed with a sunny though windy day for our Annual Charity Golf Day to raise money for Rotary Foundation and Kingdom Kids.  We are very grateful to all the teams that entered and to all our sponsors.

J & E Shepherd won for the 2nd year running and our congratulations go to them!

Hairy Haggis Marathon Relay

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland and Leonard Cheshire Disability are working together so that every disabled child in Africa has the opportunity to go to school.

Four of Kirkcaldy Raith's club members, Robert Annand,Keith Battle, Bruce Lamond and Jay Todd ran to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.  They are indebted to Fraser Durie who was their driver on the day.  Their target was £600 in sponsorship and they have exceeded this - a final total will be published once all the monies have been received.

 Ceilidh - 27 February 2009

With over 140 guests present, the Ceilidh proved again to be a very popular event which had everyone dancing the night away to live music from the ceilidh band.  The fish suppers also went down very well.  The purpose of the Ceilidh was to raise funds for Rotary Foundation and the Fife branch of Parkinsons Society.

The total amount raised was £1107 and we are grateful to everyone who gave so generously of their time and money to support such worthy causes.

Weather, Woods and Wellies

The initiative was run in partnership between Integrated Community Schools, Active Schools (Primary), Public Health Nurses, and Community Food Project with input also from the forester at one of the estates used.

Integrated Community Schools Kirkcaldy, Locality Manager, Kirkcaldy East- Fife Council, Kirkcaldy Lions and Kirkcaldy Raith Rotary Club funded the project. Children and parents have been fully involved in the evaluation of the programme. Feedback to date has been so positive that plans are already underway to develop the initiative further both in term time and future school holidays.

It ran for 3 days a week for 4 weeks of the summer holidays. It means that for 4 hours each day children had the opportunity to be active and had a healthy alternative to being inside perhaps in front of a TV or computer and bored. The school holidays can be a time of great stress for many families so it was hoped that the parents too would benefit from the initiative and the respite.

Public Health Nurses in the catchment area also offered sessions to parents at the nursery whilst the children are out enjoying themselves, as did the Community Food Project Worker.

The funding given from our club bought the waterproof suits worn by the youngsters allowing them to access the program whatever the weather.
