Cefn Sidan Rotary Club was chartered in November 1971 as a daughter club of Llanelli Rotary Club.
Having had an initial meeting earlier that year with the then District Extension Officer, Jack Cross, DC Thomas, Dr Leslie Williams and Ken Morgan showed their interest in forming Cefn Sidan Rotary. Together with a few friends, meetings were held in the Cambrian Hotel in Burry Port and the new club was formed. From those early days in 1971, the club still enjoys the company of several of its founder members.
The venue changed a few times over the years, meeting at places such as The Goodig Hotel and and The Gwenllian Court Hotel, Kidwelly before meeting once again at The Ashburnham Hotel, Pembrey.
In 1975 Cefn Sidan Rotaract Club was formed with initially over fifty members and this club helped form the Llanelli Rotaract Club underlining our relationship with our own mother club.
We believe that our name is somewhat unique in the fact that we are named, not after a town or an area but a beach (unless anyone knows different). Cefn Sidan is an eight mile stretch of sand in Carmarthen Bay extending the length of our southern border. Together with the 500 acres of country park, the area is a must for anyone visiting this beautiful part of the world.
