The money was raised at the Notcutt lecture held at the Woodbridge Community Centre earlier this year where Nicola Notcutt held a capacity audience enthralled with her experiences in the Galapagos Islands and South America while on honeymoon. The Notcutt lectures are organised by Woodbridge Rotary and have been on-going for a number of years with the next one planned for March 2010.
Deben Rowing Club are looking to substantially increase their membership numbers in the next few years. In order to do this, and given that their current facilities are old and dilapidated, a new clubhouse to store the equipment and to act as a focal meeting point for the club is required. Planning permission has already been granted and financial support from the Amateur Rowing Association / Sport England; Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council has been received. They are currently £40,000 short of the total project cost of £200,000 and the money from Woodbridge Rotary will go towards this shortfall.
Rotary is an international organisation in 186 countries and is the lead charity alongside the World Health Organisation endeavouring to rid the world of Polio. Woodbridge Rotary Club is a friendly group of local men and ladies who meet weekly and who support community and charitable projects. There is a monthly social gathering, often at an interesting venue, where partners are welcomed.
