Brief Details: The Rotary Club of Woodbridge takes on the Appeal to refurbish the war memorial
Woodbridge War Memorial Appeal
The Rotary Club of Woodbridge has been made aware that the Town's War Memorial requires some major repairs which, with some appropriate refurbishment, will cost in the region or £5,000. Without some of this expenditure the cross is likely to disintegrate. To complete the task by refurbishing the surrounding area and furniture, the cost will be in the region of £7,200.
We feel sure that you and all the people of Woodbridge and the immediate surroundings would like to have the opportunity to contribute to a fund to make the necessary repairs and to undertake any further renovations necessary to ensure that it is well preserved for the future. One substantial donation has been promised.
We take special pride in our Memorial as it was built in 1920 and we believe that Woodbridge was one of the first towns to commemorate the fallen after the First World War in this way. We feel sure that this generation wishes to maintain the Memorial in sound repair.
On Remembrance Sunday we will hear again the words "At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them." and we will be grateful to those who ensured that this country remained safe. We ask that your gratitude be expressed in the form of a donation to this Appeal. All contributions will be entered into a draw and the winner will have the opportunity to lay a wreath on behalf of all contributors and the Annual Remembrance Day Service
The plan is for the work will be completed before Remembrance Sunday this year and that there will be a service of re-dedication on that day. To make this possible an early response is requested, if possible by 31st August 2009.
In the event of the response exceeding the cost of the refurbishment the excess will be divided between the Royal British Legion Pappy Appeal and the charity Help for Heroes thus honouring both the living and the dead.
Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.
