Home | Our work providing clean water in Kenya | Back

Page Last Updated: 26/06/2009
Brief Details: Our project has been financed by Rotary Foundation (Rotary's own charity) and countless volunteers and supporters.

Villagers near Meru in Kenya depend on the local river for fresh water. This only works for them during the rainy season and even then it can be fast-flowing and dangerous.

In the dry season it is almost non-existent, muddy, dirty and often involves a round trip of several hours.

The Water Project featured here is to provide a drinking water catchment and storage facility.

First of all a rocky outcrop is prepared and a retaining wall constructued to catch the rainwater.

Then a channel is constructed to convey the water to a storage tank.

Then a base is prepared and  lined with concrete  . . .

. . .  the walls are built up  . . . .

until finally it really looks like the real thing, ready for its roof to be fitted.
