Murder in the Cathedral

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER Four Rotary clubs in the Vale of Clwyd are joining forces with one of Wales leading amateur theatre groups to present what promises to be a memorable staging of T S Eliot's classic play “Murder in the Cathedral.” And what better setting could there be for such an impelling occasion than the region's own historic St Asaph Cathedral, internationally famous for its exceptional acoustics. This spectacular re-telling of the murder of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170, will be performed by the acclaimed Phoenix Theatre Company on Saturday November 21 at 7-30pm and the audience will not be the only beneficiaries of the enthralling experience. For the four clubs – Rhyl, Denbigh, Ruthin and St Asaph – have agreed to donate the proceeds to the worthy St Kentigern and Ty Gobaith hospices, having acquired support of the Clwyd Community Theatre Association and sponsorship from the Cooperative Society Community Fund. The renowned Phoenix Company, who have represented Wales at seven British one-act finals as well as performed their version of “Macbeth” at the RSC's Swan Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon, have been joined by noted dramatist Robert Fox to compose all the music and sound effects which will richly enhance the gripping atmosphere.
