Business & Fellowship 8th May 2018

Rotarians in Rhyl are to make an immediate donation of £200 towards the mammoth cost of bringing the prestigious Urdd National Eisteddfod back to Denbighshire in 2020. Past President Gareth Wynne Jones, chairman of one of 30 committees across Wales committed to raising the £315,000 target figure required to stage this annual gathering of the biggest youth organisation in the whole of Europe, told a meeting of Rhyl Rotarians at Faenol Fawr that the challenge was clearly a daunting one. Indicating the huge breadth and diverse range of beneficial and rewarding activities that continually enriched the lives of countless thousands of young people of Wales, he confidently hoped the widest possible support would be forthcoming from all sectors of the Denbighshire communities. Members agreed to make this initial contribution and to additionally consider further donations between now and the 2020 opening ceremony. Meanwhile, the club’s popular elderly persons mystery coach tour and tea party, will again take place on Sunday June 3, organiser Hari Hughes told the meeting while social secretary Mike Howarth, who was congratulated by President Keith Roberts on the recent successful day out at Bangor-on-Dee Races, said a number of other attractive events were being firmed up on the club calendar. These included tours of the giant Airbus factory on Deeside, the St Beuno’s retreat at Tremeirchion the new H M Berwyn Prison at Wrexham. The installation of the club’s incoming President will now take place on July 10 following the 92nd Charter Night celebration dinner being held at Tweedmill restaurant this coming Friday May 18.
