Club Assembly

Another successful old persons’ mystery coach trip and tea party was reported to members at the annual Club Assembly at Faenol Fawr. Organiser Hari Hughes, the Community Service chairman, said although this popular annual event was not without its difficulties it had again proved to be a hugely popular occasion and he thanked all those who had assisted him in making it possible. For many of the participants, he stressed, this outing was the highlight of their year and once more he had received a number of cards and letters from appreciative senior citizens expressing their profound thanks to the club for providing this much valued special treat. President Keith Roberts said the club owed a massive debt of gratitude to Hari for bearing the heavy burden that the organisation of this event entailed, not least the driving of the coach to Llandudno and back. Without his mammoth and unstinting input it would simply not happen. Meanwhile, senior vice-president John Hickerton promised to look to provide an atmosphere of entertainment, amusement and fine fellowship during his forthcoming year in office alongside the continuing challenge of fund-raising to aid local charities and worthy good causes. He repeated his particular commitment to the world-wide Rotary campaign to eradicate the killer disease of polio from the face of the earth and was confident that this astonishing ambition would be realized in the near distance. Assistant District Governor Terry Boulton congratulated the club on its proud record of service and expressed confidence that the programme outlined for the next 12 months would provide continuing success for all members. He pledged the full support of District 1180 in all Rhyl’s ambitions and endeavours.
