Steve Mosey and his wife Eileen have built a schoolroom in Kenya with clean water collection facilities.

Steve Mosey and his wife Eileen attended the meeting of the Rotary Club of Brigg on Thursday 3rd November 2016. Steve was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by PDG Mohammad Ali to recognise his contribution to enhance the education of children in a rural area of Kenya and President Ambrose Fowler presented him with his fellowship.

During a holiday in Kenya, Steve and his family recognised the need for a school house and clean water supply for the Ololchura Primary School in Kenya. Children were being taught lessons under a tree and they had to drink dirty water from a local stream. Seeing the poor conditions, Steve and his family decided to finance the building of a school house and a rain water harvesting system. The project was totally paid for by Steve from his personal funds. This project was completed in 2010.

Since the construction of the first classroom, a church group from Birmingham and the local authority in Kenya have added 2 further buildings to the school. The Rotary Club of Brigg took the opportunity to work with Steve and provide furniture for the school. This consisted of desks for pupils, chairs and desks for teachers and cupboards for the classrooms.

The project, costing £1,550, was half funded by the Rotary Club of Brigg and the other half came from the matching District Grant from the Rotary Foundation (Rotary's own charity).

The education and welfare of the school children has been greatly enhanced by these projects.
