The Lighter Side of the Law Sylvia Kelly

Greenock Police Court was quite a place. Sylvia Kelly, current president of Greenock Rotary Club, told us about all her years running the Police Court. Many a worhty has passed through its doors but the busiest days were those after the Fair Weekend. As many as 70 people could be before the court on these days mainly for being drunken and disorderly. One man tried to pay his parking fine with half pennies only to find when he left the office that he had another parking fine for parking outside on double yellow lines. However the lasting image we will have is of Sylvia catching her fishnets on the clips of her boots and being unable to stand when asked to come forward to the bench. Eventually she had to rip herself free with a noise that left nothing to the imagination!
