The Rotarian Action Group Against Slavery is represented by Rotarians in 65 countries.

The Group aims to help bring to everyone’s attention the shocking and unacceptable knowledge that there are some 36 million slaves around the world, more than double the number of people taken out of Africa in the 400 or so years of the Atlantic Slave Trade. They are forced to work under threat of violence and for no pay, their stolen labour and lives feeding into our shops, our businesses and our homes.

Slavery exists on this scale despite being contrary to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), which states in Article 4 that ‘no one shall be held in slavery or servitude: slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms’.

This knowledge should prompt action and change. The major obstacles of lack of awareness and lack of resources can be overcome, the Group supporting, working with and promoting anti-slavery organisations and activities, with programmes, campaigns and projects.

The Group’s website, newsletters and Facebook give up-to-date information about this challenging and vital world-wide work in progress. http://ragas.online/
