Local Rotarians joined volunteer NHS Trust fund-raisers in Tesco’s Newton Aycliffe store at the weekend to help collect much-needed cash for the regional MRI scanners appeal. And their efforts paid off . . . Aycliffe Rotary Club President Nora Scott commented: “The collection confirmed that people in this part of the world are very much behind the scanners project”.

Trust appeal campaigner Pat Chambers added: “We’re very grateful to Tesco for giving us the opportunity to fund-raise in the store and to raise awareness of the need for new MRI scanners at Darlington Memorial and Bishop Auckland hospitals.”

Pictured during the collection are (l-r) Rtn Geoff Batchelor, Anne Eyley, Pat Chambers and Rtn Keith Butterfield.

The magnetic resonance imaging scanners with their advanced technology will help consultants to diagnose many types of cancer, cardio-vascular and muscular skeletal conditions. The clarity of imaging aids earlier diagnosis, which in turn, helps to save lives.

The Charitable Trust is seeking community support to help raise the £2.5million needed for the scanners which will make the Trust a leader in radiology across the UK.

Donations to the appeal can be made via www.justgiving.com/cddft or Text SCAN02 £10 to 70070 (please specify any amount you wish to donate). You can also choose a BACS to: Nat West Sort Code 60-70-80 Acct: 10011056 or send a cheque to: CDDFT Scanner Appeal, Darlington Memorial Hospital, Hollyhurst Road Darlington DL3 6HX.

Donations can also be made via Rtn Syd Howarth, who is co-ordinating the local appeal, at the offices of Newton News at the Blue Bridge Centre, St Cuthbert’s Way, Newton Aycliffe DL5 6DS
