Part of the audience listening intently.
Barry Douglas, the pastor of Seaton Community Church spoke at the meeting on 16 May 2013 about his journey from being in a comfortable position at the Kings Community Church to one at the new Seaton Community Church. Of how he was drawn to the area of Seaton and the needs there, from feelings in his own heart and how these were reinforced by the views of others especially members of the Seaton Community Project Management Committee.
Barry then spoke about how some of the needs are being addressed by the recently started Foodbank project (in partnership with the Trussell Trust) where food parcels are given to those who are in severe need, over 50 have been helped in the first 4 weeks of operation!
Also mentioned was the Drop-In held weekly where topics such as debt, benefit issues, various addictions have been discussed but also the opportunity for chat and a cuppa. Also a Friday night meeting where the youth of the area can meet in a safe environment and enjoy themselves.
It was truly amazing to hear of all these initiatives in a church that only opened last September. The talk was followed by a lengthy question and answer session. Overall a good meeting and one which has left several members with feelings of how can Balgownie Rotary help in the future.
