Youth Speaks - Senior Competition. Whitchurch High School Senior Library

Youth Speaks club round

This year's Rotary Youth Speaks Club competition was held at Whitchurch High School. Presentations were of a high standard with interesting motions. After a close fought contest the winning team whose motion was "This house believes that Modern Art cannot be done by 5 year olds" also took the individual prizes for best chairperson (Maisie McCoy); best speaker (Morgan Haigh) and best vote of thanks (Emily Hermon). Jenny Barton-Greenwood(Chair), Marion Allsobrook, and John Bridge formed the eminent outside judging panel who had the difficult job of choosing the winners. The picture shows the winning team, after the presentation of Certificates and Prizes, with Anthony Rees, the teacher who coaches the teams and Judges Jenny and John.

Despite a first-rate performance at the Area Final held at Cardiff Golf Club on February 1st (hosts RC Cardiff Llanishen) the team did not progress to the District Final. However Morgan Haigh won the prize for the best speaker. The team from St John's College will represent the area in the District Final. The Intemediate competition was won by the team from Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg.
