The guest speaker at the meeting of 23rd. July was John Piper who recalled events of his time in Upper Wensleydale when he served on the Rural District Council and the County Council and was with the National Park Committee. Some contentious planning requests for buildings, alterations, footpaths and access on the Highway were brought to mind. The vote of thanks was proposed by Albert Calvert.  Despite the weather the Club had a successful time at Masham Steam Fair and the Tombola Stall raised £480. The James Herriot Country Trail Run of Saturday 29th. July was discussed and members were allocated their tasks.  Concern was expressed as to the condition of the car parking fields if there was a great deal of rain prior to the event.  York Acorn Running Club have donated a Shield to the Club to be awarded to a Club Team of 2 men and 1 woman recording the best time. 215 runners are registered to date. The winners of the Best Kept Village Competition were Middleton Tyas and West Burton.
