Speaker Mike Darwin

A third generation of the Darwin family who have been Auctioneers, Valuers and Estate Agents in Bedale, Mike Darwin, gave a most interesting insight into the world of sales and valuations to members of the Club. The changes in emphasises in the family business reflect the changes in the community in the Dales. Farm sales have changed. Furniture fashions change-the size of rooms in recently built houses can not take the large bedroom furniture or dining room sideboards that parents or grandparents found so useful, that have been kept in excellent condition- and items that twenty or thirty years ago were sought after now are difficult to sell. Undoubtedly enthusiastic about his work and full of anecdotes about the Auction Room his talk produced many questions and comments from his listeners. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Laurie Kent. Members were advised of the arrangements for the Annual Charter and Handover meeting at the Hawes Creamery on Friday 27th  and reminded of the Charity Sunday Lunch in aid of ShelterBox at Wrenscar, Bellerby on July 6th
