Fleet Rotarys newly elected President for 2016 - 2017
As from 1st July 2016 John Johnstone has been elected the latest President of Fleet Rotary - John joined the club in 1995. He was born and attended school in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). In 1957 he started an engineering apprenticeship in Glasgow in preparation for a career as a Marine Engineer, joining Shell Tankers in 1959 and remaining with the Company till retiring in 1995 as a Superintendent Engineer.
He and his wife Moira moved to Fleet in 1976 with their two daughters. They are members of the United Reformed Church in Fleet, as well as being involved with other charitable organisations in the area
John said, "I have found Rotary to be a very fulfilling alternative to working. The Club has achieved so much over these years and although I have only played a small part in those achievements, I have been inspired by the efforts and fellowship of the Rotarians, not only in the Rotary Club of Fleet but also those of other Rotary Clubs. I now find myself elected to the honourable position of President of the Club and with gratitude for their confidence in me, and with some trepidation, I look forward to continuing in the same vein as before in providing where we can, a Service to the Community - locally and in the wider world."
2015/16 The year of the 7 Presidents
The presidential handover celebration on 27June was unusual with 7 presidents having served in Rotary year 2015 / 16.The last was smiling Dave White seen handing over to John Johnstone. We were grateful to Ross Mitchell for dance music and singing from his Combo. Other photos show the Magnificent Seven, Flag waving by intuitive military/civil service tallest on the right, shortest on the left, and Yoon Yoong receiving his president elect ribbon from the new president
