Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford donation to the Herts. Air Ambulance fundraising drive.

On Monday 12 January Nikki Caborn, the chief fundraiser for the Herts. Air Ambulance Service, was presented with a cheque for £1000 by the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford.  It was the second in a total of £3000 that the Club is committed to giving over a 3 year period.

Before the presentation, Nikki entertained club members with an update of the service to date.  So far a total of £530,000 has been raised.  This has enabled an air ambulance helicopter to be leased and for the service to go operational on 10 November 2008.  So far some 36 missions have been undertaken from the helicopter’s base at North Weald Aerodrome.

Nikki mentioned that the service’s operational costs are £80,000 a month, with each emergency flight costing £2000, most of which comes from fundraising activities for which Nikki is responsible.  To help meet the £720,000 annual running costs, the Herts. Air Ambulance Service is launching its own Lottery called Flight for Life, with a weekly top prize of £1000 and a Superdraw of £25000.  Details available on www.flightforlifelottery.uk.com
