SENIOR CITIZENS' CHRISTMAS PARTY

Havering Seniors enjoy a night with the stars

Tuesday 24th, November saw the Rotary Club of Hornchurch and Upminster hold their annual Christmas dinner for senior citizens of Havering Borough at The Lodge, Upminster.   This year over 100 guests came from all over Havering.

The Lodge was decorated in an appropriately festive way and after the excellent fare  and service provided by the Lodge staff, the Rotarians formed a choir and sang a medley of Christmas songs under the baton of Club musician, George Larkey, who managed to weld his team together by sheer magnetism despite no rehearsals  whatsoever.

The highlight of the entertainment was provided by the two Rotarian Rays, Ray Leach and Ray Hare, who wowed the guests with their solo performances of old romantic songs and songs from the shows.

The event meant complete involvement for all Club members who not only rallied round to provide transport for our guests, but then – nobly assisted by their partners – served the meals and drinks and generally helped our guests wherever there was a need.

Club President Brian, who did much of the pre-event organization, was to the fore throughout, ably supported by Past President Norman Ellenby who performed the role of Maitre d' with great éclat.

Our guests were mightily impressed with the whole evening – and already are looking forward to their 2010 Rotary Christmas.
