RCW, Foundation and Paul Harris Fellows

The Rotary Club of Whiteley donates to the Rotary Foundation via Paul Harris Fellowships

PHF Certificate

A Rotary Club can honour its members with a Paul Harris Fellowship. It is usually awarded for service to the club over and above what would be considered usual or "expected".

Paul Harris Fellow recognition was created in memory of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, as a way to show appreciation for contributions to the Foundation's charitable and educational programme.

A Paul Harris Fellow is an individual who contributes $1,000 or in whose name that amount is contributed

Every Paul Harris Fellow receives a pin, medallion and a certificate when he or she becomes a Fellow.  This identifies the Paul Harris Fellow as an advocate of the Foundation's goals of world peace and international understanding.

It has been a practice of many clubs to award Paul Harris Fellowships in appreciation of his or her service to the club or the local, national or international community. Please see the website www.ourfoundation.info for more information about the Rotary Foundation, particularly the newsletters and this fascinating article called "What is a Paul Harris Fellow?" (click here to read) about the principals and reason for the existance of the Rotary Foundation,

As of November 2009 the Rotary Club of Whiteley is proud to have awarded five Paul Harris Fellowships to recognise individuals who have contributed to our club, to Rotary in general and to the community at large. Additionally, one of our members was awarded a PHF before even becoming a Rotarian!

The first PHF went to Allan Chamberlain, a long serving Rotarian and Past Assistant District Governor, a founder member of the club. Without Allan's dedication and hard work the Rotary Club of Whiteley would not exist and continue to flourish.

The second was awarded to the remarkable Helen Somerset How, to recognise her achievements in creating, expanding and developing the Rainbow Centre, a facility to assist the development of children with cerebral palsy.  See our links page for their website. (Helen was awarded an MBE in the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours. The rest of the country caught up with RCW!)

Our third PHF was our founding President, Kevin Butcher. Kevin has been a Rotarian for many years with our mother Club and was a major influence and guiding force in the formation of our new club. Always willing to volunteer for everything, there are few more dedicated Rotarians.

Our fourth award was presented to Pauline Kidd, another founder member and absolute stalwart of our club. Pauline's continuous hard work, her administrative skills and dedicated energy continue to be a huge boon to RCW, making possible many projects and events that otherwise may not have happened.

Fifth (and presented on the same night as Pauline) was Stephan Mason. Steve was recognised for his outstanding work with the "Lively Lady" and the "Around and Around" projects, both using sailing to enhance the lives of many young people. See our links page for the project website.
