Retired Fire Chief John Martin

Thu, Aug 3rd 2006 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

John Martin nearly did not make into the fire service. At his medical he was told he was too small and had bad eyesight. However he played football and was accepted because they needed a good footballer! He did however manage to find himself outside on the road, fully geared up for a fire, when got out of a fire vehicle that had stooped for a traffic light thinking he had a arrived a the scene of the incident. He worked his way up to become Deputy Fire Chief for Strathclyde and if he had not been a footballer then the fire service would have lost a man of undoubted talent and bravery.
