Talk by new member Adrian Jones on 'My Job'
It is always a pleasure for the Club when the guest speaker is one of their own members. On Monday evening the Club heard from Dr. Adrian Jones – well known as a General Practitioner in the Upper Dale. He told of his times in training at Medical School and as a Houseman and Registrar. While some of his anecdotes were amusing –reminiscent of "Doctor in the House" – what came through was the patient care and dedication of all concerned. The questions following his talk showed the general concern for 'out of hours' care, the inevitable specialisation of the Hospitals in Northallerton and Middlesbrough and the distances patients must travel, especially for 'check ups' that some felt could be done by their local G.P. bearing in mind the computerisation of records. Many felt the P.C.T for York and the Dales did not take into account the distances involved in rural areas when compared with urban practices. The recent PolioPlus campaign at Tesco and Leyburn Cooperative Stores raised £1,433 thanks to the generosity of the public.
