RC of Westhoughton take the Rotary Relay baton

The seven Rotary Clubs of the Bolton area, including Westhoughton, decided to develop a joint project to celebrate the centenary.  This was the Rotary Way, a footpath following the perimeter of Bolton MBC's area.  It is 50 miles long, and divided into eight sections.

The project was some 2 1/2 years in the planning, and was officially opened on the Centenary day itself.  Past Rotary GB&I John Kenny joined us for the occasion, having inspected the route.

The members of all seven clubs then took part in a relay around the whole route, on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May, and proved that it can be done in 17 hours, 32 minutes, which is around 3 mph.

We also celebrated with a 36-page, A5 book, The Rotary Way, sold to the public at £5.50 including postage.  (Copies are still available - please email us via the "Rotary Way" option on the contact page, and we tell you how to get hold of a copy).

We start with the point in the relay where the Rotary Club of Bolton (83 years old) hand the baton on to our team in Westhoughton, at our boundary on Newbrook Road.
