 Rotary Technology Tournament   2010

The Technology Tournament is one of a number of activities run by Rotary. This is the fourth year that the Rotary Club of Norwich St Edmund has joined up with the Rotary Clubs of Norwich and  Reepham.

This year's project objective was to devise a beacon with a flashing light on top. The beacon had to carry an advertising billboard. There were three levels- basic, intermediate and advanced as well as two teacher teams.  At the basic level, the beacon had to flash once, at the intermediate, the beacon  had to flash ten times and at the advanced level the beacon had to flash at one second intervals.

This year's Tournament involved twenty teams from eight different secondary schools. All teams were provided with basic materials such as card, wire, a battery and bulb. These were the only items allowed to devise their mechanisms. Marks were awarded for design, planning and time management. Some were very impressive and successful designs.

The winning teams were from The Hewett School, Langley School and Norwich School.

It was a delight to welcome Councillor Collishaw, the Lord Mayor of Norwich who took time to speak to each of the teams. Also Presidents from supporting Rotary Clubs together with Bill Redmayne, Martin Brocklebank and Cmdr. Wallace assisted with the judging.  Members of the Norwich Engineering Society helped organise the judging as well as being one of the sponsors.

It was a very successful and enjoyable day.
