Frinton Fishermen take part in the High Markham Trophy againt Manningtree RC
Frinton had the home advantage in this inter Rotary competition. The Home team has to offer the opposition two sports/games (preferably something unusual) and the away team, this time, chose Sea Angling. For two hours on a sunny June evening at Walton on the Naze, 8 "fishermen" from Frinton Rotary and Manningtree Stour Valley Rotary tried their hands at casting from the beach, without taking someone's eye out. With sandwiches and drinks from the beach hut, it wasn't long before Sonny Francis, representing Frinton RC, caught the first fish - a massive 157 gram "shoal bass", which set the standard. He proceded to catch two more, although they got smaller as time went on. Frinton Rtn Chris Opperman also had a lucky break when he landed a large minnow, bringing the total to four fish. Maningtree were unlucky and caught one small fish, but it wasn't enough to beat the Frinton total weight! A win for Frinton on the first occasion they have taken part for some years. The RAF even supplied a helicopter to lift the heaviest fish!
